NY Times: Haiti Interactive

Old Airport Tent City following the 2010 earthquake

NY Times has a fantastic interactive feature on Haiti for the 1-year anniversary of the earthquake that wrecked Port-au-Prince and its surroundings this time last year.

The NYT team stitched together satellite imagery from Google Earth and GeoEye from before and immediately after the Jan. 12 earthquake, as well as current images to create a series of maps that let users “see” just what kind of effect last year’s earthquake had and continues to have.

According to the Neiman Journalism Lab, Google reached out to news organizations in advance of the anniversary with the offer of the images. All the images are available on Picassa.
